Electives, Dual Credit & CTEs

Elective courses earn academic credit while equipping a learner with targeted skills and knowledge. These courses allow for personalization and career-readiness in a student’s track.

Further, our Career and Technical Education (CTE) elective courses help students explore careers and build real-world skills. Many courses lead to industry-recognized certifications, giving students a head start in today’s job market. Career guidance is built into the lessons, making it easy to discover different paths and interests.

CTE courses are available for students in grades 6–12.

Dual Credit

Dual Credit is a system that allows eligible students to enroll in college-level courses and receive credit from both the college and CCS simultaneously. It is a powerful way to satisfy high school graduation requirements while building a college transcript, allowing you to focus on the classes you love.

CCS Dual Credit Policies

  • Enrollment & Qualification: Students may apply directly to their chosen college for admission, and those enrolled in college-level academic, trade, or technical courses—whether virtual or on-site—attain both high school graduation requirements and college credit simultaneously.
  • Core Coursework: College courses in English, Math, Science, or History, replace the need for core courses at CCS (e.g., English 1301 satisfies the requirement for one year of high school English).
  • Electives: Any additional college courses taken outside of core requirements will be applied as electives on your transcript (e.g., Completing Psych 101 at the college level grants 1.1 high school elective credits with honors weighting).
  • Weighted GPA: All dual credit courses are assigned honors weight for high school GPA calculation. One college course typically converts to 1.1 high school credits on your transcript.
  • Dual Credit Credit Conversion
  • One-to-One Replacement: One core college course (typically one semester) satisfies the requirement for a full year of a single high school core course.
  • Credit Equivalency: Even though the college course is completed in a single semester, it functions as a one-to-one trade for a full year of high school curriculum.

How to Get Started

  1. Enroll at the college of your choice and complete their specific admissions process independently.
  2. Coordinate Notify the school of the courses you are taking so we can ensure you do not double up on your core coursework at CCS.
  3. Report To ensure your CCS transcript is accurate and weighted correctly, you must provide an official college transcript to our office upon completion of your courses.

 The CCS Advantage

  • Endless Opportunity: CCS students have the opportunity to earn unlimited college credits while still in high school.
  • Flexibility: Courses can be taken virtually or on a physical college campus.
  • Saving Time: Students have the opportunity to earn endless college credits while still in high school, accelerating their academic journey.
  • Double the Support: CCS students benefit from having double the amount of staff to help them, as our teachers provide assistance with both high school and college coursework.
