Academic Advising & Guidance
Crossroads Christian School partners with parents for each student’s academic success. This partnership is an established, ongoing, intentional relationship between Crossroads Christian homeschool educators and parents.
The goals of the Academic Partnership are:
Graduation Requirements
The Crossroads diploma requires four years of High School academic courses. All courses are tailor designed to meet each students needs for post-secondary plans. Students in grades 9-12 can take dual credit classes.
The diploma is awarded to seniors with four years of high school attendance who have met the School’s academic standards (meets State of Texas requirements) and fulfilled the course requirements listed below. To remain eligible for a Crossroad’s diploma, a student must faithfully attend and complete one of our academic programs, maintain a passing grade point average, and complete all requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the State of Texas.
Crossroads does not grant diplomas to students who do not meet these standards.
* CCS is NOT a diploma mill. We do not offer diplomas for a fee. Our coursework is aligned with national and state standards. We do not “test out” students from required courses. We follow Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) recommended high school program and all legal requirements to homeschool in Texas, allowing the parent to determine additional requirements for graduation. The parent is required to sign their child’s diploma.
* Students must meet the legal requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency and the State of Texas to graduate from CCS.
As stated above, one of the advantages of Crossroads at the high school level is that you can customize your child’s courses to best suit post-high school plans. In order to receive a diploma from Crossroads Christian School, students in grades 9-12 must successfully complete credits in core academic courses. Upon verification, electives and sports can be applied as credits. Transferring students are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Examples to consider in each subject are as follows:
Incoming Students: All transferring students must complete a minimum of number of credit hours from Crossroads and be enrolled full-time during the academic school year to be considered eligible for a diploma.
Incoming Seniors: Three consecutive years of academics (through junior year). Except for special circumstance, all seniors must be enrolled full time at Crossroads for the academic year in order to receive a diploma and complete a total of the required credits.
*Credit for students new to Crossroads is assessed on the basis of placement tests and transcripts. Interested students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to guarantee a spot and must meet the requirements for course study.
*Annual graduation ceremonies are at the end of the normal academic school year tentatively scheduled in May.
While home schoolers in Texas are not required to complete any specified course plan other than a bona fide visual study of reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship, the Texas Education Agency’s Recommended High School Program consists of 26 credits. The Core Recommended Course Sample is:
Texas Education Code (TEC) 51.803-51.809 ( State of Texas Uniform Admission Policy) requires that all students meet one of the college readiness standards in order to be eligible to be considered for admission at a Texas Four-Year Public Institution.
If you attend a public high school in Texas you must submit a transcript that indicates that you will graduate under the state’s Recommended or Distinguished/Advanced high school programs as defined in the state’s Uniform Admissions Policy or a transcript that shows you will graduate under the state’s Foundation high school program. Students graduating under the Foundation program must show proof of the distinguished level of achievement to be eligible for top 10% automatic admission.
If you attend an out-of-state high school or are a home schooled student, you are exempt from the Uniform Admission Policy.
If you attend a private high school in Texas (or a Department of Defense high school) you must claim an exemption to the state’s high school coursework requirements by one of the following methods:
1. Submit Official SAT/ACT Scores
To claim an exemption based on test scores, your official SAT score must be at least 480 for EBRW and 530 for Math or your official ACT scores must be at least 18 English, 22 Reading, 22 Mathematics and 23 Science.
2. Coursework ‘Equal in Content & Rigor’
Applicants who attend private Texas high schools may be exempt if they complete coursework that is “equal in content and rigor” to one of the state’s graduation programs. To claim an exemption under this option, submit an exemption form signed by an official representative of your school.
Details about this exemption are available on the appropriate exemption form.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO ANY TEXAS PUBLIC UNIVERSITY
A student scheduled to graduate from a Texas private high school may be considered for admission to a Texas public university if the student has completed the foundation high school program or its equivalent, or has achieved college readiness scores on the ACT or SAT entrance exams. Students of Texas private high schools who have completed only a portion of the foundation high school program because the courses are not available to the student may still be eligible for admission to a Texas public university.

Gone are the days when home schooled students wondered if they would be able to go to college. In 2003 the Texas legislature passed HB 944, a law that requires state-supported institutions to accept home school graduates without discrimination and on the same basis that their public school counterparts are accepted. Today home school graduates are not only getting into colleges but also being actively recruited by many schools.
There is now plenty of evidence to show that they can not only do well at higher education institutions but also excel. Even college sports, once thought to be out of the question for the home educated student, are now an option.
