Career and College Readiness

At Crossroads Christian, our goal is to assist the family in the mentorship and education of the student, and to ensure they have every opportunity for success. We offer curriculum from publishers who provide superior educational courses and resources that help present that material most effectively. In order to provide the best materials for each course of mastery learning, we offer, but are not limited to, the following course material: A Beka, Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Achievement, Alpha Omega’s LIFEPAC, Alpha Omega's Horizon, and in an effort to further refine and develop our already successful program we are adding Ignitia.

Required Electives: The following character and leadership skills courses are integrated into the curriculum and included in the curriculum fees: Sean Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids and for seniors, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Foundations Curriculum. Optional electives include: AP Courses, CTE Courses and Electives.
 
 

   

   

 


Core Curiculum

Ignitia courses are not only rigorous and interactive, but provide instruction based on a Christian worldview, encouraging students to consider challenging questions from a biblical perspective with text-based lessons, assignments, quizzes, and tests that engage students while they learn. Students have 24/7 access to more than 50,000 multimedia elements including audio and video files, challenging games, interactive exercises, a historical timeline, and integrated video clips reinforce concepts and offer in depth explanation of key points.

Additionally, Ignitia opens the door to career and college readiness for students with optional Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. Available for grades 7-12, CTE courses encourage students to explore, compete, and succeed as lifelong learners beyond high school. CTE, AP Courses and Electives are not included in CCCI's fees and tuition, but can always be purchased in addition to the curriculum.

Prepare Your Students for College and Career Success with Career & Technical Education (CTE)  and Advanced Placement Courses!

On-campus classes meet two days per week, with at-home learning occurring on the alternate days.  We suggest that your student spend his or her time working the core subjects and required electives when on campus. Your student should spend a minimum number of hours outside the classroom working on progress and any additional electives. Additional electives are not required, but offer significant benefit to your student's academic future and Crossroad Christian offers a wide variety of elective courses. Electives are not included in CCCI's fees and tuition, but can always be purchased in addition to the current curriculum.

Crossroads Christian Core, Electives, CTE and AP Courses

Christian schools today need to offer their students more than the basics to help them to succeed after high school. Ignitia's electives were developed to ensure schools can provide a diverse slate of rigorous online courses that today's families expect from an academic environment. From practical courses including business computer information systems to college preparatory courses such as trigonometry and world languages, students can fill out their schedules with courses that appeal to them and meet the needs they require for their future. Some electives are geared toward students with specific needs such as advanced U.S. history, advanced calculus, and GED preparatory courses in core subject areas. All courses are Bible-based and geared toward helping students build a Christian worldview that will stay with them throughout adulthood.

Crossroads Christian students have the opportunity to take any of our more than 43 elective courses, including business computer information systems, business courses, two world languages and many more.

Advanced Courses

Crossroads Christian offers more than 20 advanced courses for grades 8-12. High school students looking for more challenges can take Honors or Advanced Placement courses to give them an extra edge in college.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
 
AP Biology
In this course, the major concepts covered are chemical properties of living things, cells, genetics, evolution, biological diversity, plants, animals, and ecology.
 
AP Calculus
In this course, you will study the branch of mathematics that deals with trigonometry and analytic geometry.
 
AP Chemistry
This chemistry course will further develop students’ understanding of microstructure of substances, and teach the symbolic and mathematical world of formulas, equations, and symbols.
 
AP English Language and Composition
This course focuses on rhetorical analysis through study of non-fiction texts taken from a variety of eras and genres (including speeches, poetry, letters, essays, and historical documents). Students will develop their awareness of the writing process and engage with diverse literary voices. This course is typically taken by high school juniors.
 
AP Psychology
Students will become familiar with the various schools of thought in psychology over the past 150 years, the role of the brain, what compels us to act, the nature of emotion, how we learn, and a host of other fascinating and relevant subjects from a Biblical, Christian perspective.
 
AP United States History

Core Courses

Ignitia Bible

Inspirational and practical, Ignitia's Bible curriculum for grades 3 through 12 helps students connect biblical teachings with real life situations to form a firm foundation for living. Courses within this online curriculum cover a wide range of topics to help students develop and understanding of the Bible, its principles and lessons, and practical applications of God's Word as they learn and grow. From the basic theology and the attributes of God, to biblical literature and geography, references from the King James Version help students explore the Old and New Testaments through interactive, age-appropriate instructional materials.

Ignitia History & Geography

Ignitia's online curriculum offers students in grades 3 through 12 a comprehensive look at history and geography from a biblical perspective. The courses in this discipline provide a wide range of categories including world and American geography; world, religious, and American history; government; citizenship; economics; and social studies and are designed to help students to understand God's hand in historical events throughout history and His influences on the physical landscape.

Ignitia Language Arts

Ignitia's language arts and English courses promote literacy in all areas of communication including reading, writing, listening, and speaking through the use of interactive lessons infused with God's Word. Students will learn from online lessons, assignments, and assessments that support lifelong communication skills with emphasis on essential skills including vocabulary, spelling, comprehension, penmanship, composition, and grammar. Instruction for upper grade students includes literature studies and the Bible as literature, the development of research and reporting skills, and visual media.

Ignitia Math

Ignitia math takes students from the basics of simple arithmetic to complex problem solving as they advance from grade 3 through grade 12, building their knowledge and skill proficiencies. Courses include online lessons and practice, fun learning games, challenging assessments, and creative problem solving. Throughout the courses, students will strengthen critical thinking skills and learn to apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations to come up with practical solutions.

Ignitia Science

Ignitia's exciting, Bible-based science courses were built with Christian schools in mind, creating an environment that explains God's relationship with the physical universe and promotes understanding of the world around them. As they advance from science basics to more complex topics in science, students will study a wide range of scientific disciplines including biology, chemistry, life science, space, physical science, and nature. They will also explore the tools utilized by today's scientific community such as scientific method, experimentation, and technology.

This practical elective course helps students learn the skills they will need to become independent, productive members of God's family here on earth. From Christian character and appearance to decorating the home and financial freedom, personal and family living lessons cover a range of relevant, real-life topics for high school students.

Designed for today's Christian schools, this inspiring, interactive course explores the underlying principles on which the United States was established and is governed today. The study of this one-of-a-kind, living document helps students to look at its history and value from a biblical perspective.

Twentieth Century American History

Students travel back in time to discover America in the 20th Century with this semester-long elective created for Christian schools. Through exploring the changes, conflicts, and growth that took place in the last century, students will better understand the America they live in today.

The Civil War

This semester-long elective takes students back in time to the Civil War, providing a historical perspective on the two cultures that drove a wedge between the North and South. From the Battle of Bull Run, through the Emancipation Proclamation, the fall of Richmond, and Reconstruction, this course gives students an understanding of one of the most important turning points in American History.

The Vietnam Era

This history elective created for Christian schools offers both a domestic and global political perspective of the three turbulent decades that left a permanent mark on American history, the Vietnam Era. This interactive course brings history to life and engages today's learners.

Civics

With our five-unit Ignitia Civics course, give your students the information they need to be responsible citizens. Students will investigate not only the personal rights and responsibilities of citizenship, but also will discuss the role of religion in government and the implications that American politics and foreign policy have internationally.

American Literature

Discover America all over again with literature written throughout its short history. During this five-unit study, students will explore writings from authors who chronicled the growth and recorded the emotions that reflect the spirit of America.

British Literature

The rich history of the English language is explored through this study of British literature that spans from Old English and the Middle Ages to modern writers of the twentieth century. Discussion will also include a comparison of this British literature and the Bible.

Consumer math is a practical elective that gives students the information to manage their money through planning and critical thinking about the complex economy of today. With lessons on employment, taxes, investments, insurance, and consumer know-how, it provides real-world information they will find invaluable through high school and beyond.

Foundations for Living

Asa part of a complete learning management system, family and consumer science is a self-directed elective infused with technology-based lessons, tools, and exercises to enrich learning for students, and streamline instruction and administrative tasks for teachers. Like all Ignitia courses, Bible verses (KJV) and biblical references support the development of a Christian worldview and encourage practical Christian living.

Digital Arts

Encourage the development of digital skills! Ignitia Digital Arts introduces students to the effective use of digital cameras and the manipulation of digital images with imaging and editing software. Students also explore audio recording and editing, cinematography, and 3D technology. Project-based, this fun, one-semester course places a strong emphasis on student inquiry, research, and writing to develop 21st century tech-based skill sets.

Music Appreciation

Hear the sound of academic success with online-based Ignitia Music Appreciation! This one-semester elective for grades 9-12 provides instruction in basic musical elements, traces the development of classical music, and gives a lifelong appreciation of music. Complete with listening exercises, students will be able to describe common instruments by sound, define musical measures, compare music time periods, and study the value of music to society throughout time.

Small Business Entrepreneurship

Help teens turn their dreams into reality with Ignitia Small Business Entrepreneurship for grades 9-12. This one-semester CTE elective inspires future business owners by presenting an overview of the main aspects of business management. Topics include creation, development, and organization of a small business, as well as the challenges and benefits associated with being one's own boss. Course content includes interactive lessons, tests, quizzes, and multimedia.

Essentials of Business

Teach high school students business sense with Ignitia Essentials of Business, a one-semester elective for grades 9-12. Topics of study include functions of a company and effective management practices. Assignments emphasize student inquiry, research, and writing, and external web resources enrich the learning process while encouraging the development of media skills. Hands-on and practical, this Internet-based course helps student apply business concepts to daily life and examine corporate citizenship.

Business Computer Information Systems IA

Created for the students in the information age, this one-semester course helps students master the skills necessary to communicate effectively in the workplace. From communications basics and workplace skills, to instruction on specific software applications, computer literacy is at the core of this practical course.

Business Computer Information Systems IB

Help your students prepare for life after high school with this one-semester technology-rich course. Picking up where BCIS-IA stops, this course covers the use of technology for business on a broad scale, including lessons on telecommunications, networks, and operating systems. Students will explore the world of computers on a corporate level and learn how they impact the workplace.

Office Applications I

Give students office software skills needed in the workplace or college with Ignitia Office Applications I for grades 9-12. This one-semester, five-unit CTE elective includes multimedia, tests, quizzes, and interactive lessons on the Microsoft® Office® programs of Word®, PowerPoint®, and Publisher®. Internet-based lessons cover designing, developing, editing, and sharing business documents.

Office Applications II

Turn your high school students into Excel and Access experts with Ignitia Office Applications II: Microsoft® Excel® and Access®! This one-semester elective for grades 9-12 expands computer skills with a focus on spreadsheets and database -driven documents. This online CTE course includes five units that delve into data entry, formatting, formulas, and functions. Tests, quizzes, and interactive lessons with multimedia are included.

Technology and Business

Teach students business technology skills with Ignitia Technology and Business for grades 9-12! This 11-unit CTE elective contains online lessons that explore emerging technologies, operating systems, and computer networks. Topics include technical skills, effective communication, and productive work habits. Course content includes interactive lessons, tests, quizzes, and multimedia.

New Applications: Web Development in the 21st Century

Give your students the tools they need to pursue a career in web or application programming with Ignitia New Applications. This six-unit course for grades 9-12 teaches the basics of Internet programming, web programming, and web hosting. In addition to learning standard terms and techniques, students gain practical experience as they develop simple video games and mobile applications. This online course also examines a typical workplace environment for web and distributed applications designers.

Introduction to Information Support & Services

Prepare your students to succeed within information technology by helping them explore potential careers and develop essential customer service skills. In Ignitia Introduction to Information Support and Services, students in grades 9-12 apply their knowledge of hardware and software as they learn how to analyze technical support requests and perform customer service tasks while maintaining a safe work environment.

Software Development Tools

Teach your students how to design their own software application with Ignitia Software Development Tools. In this six-unit course for grades 9-12, students learn how applications are created in commonly used software development tools, discover how web applications communicate with web browsers to prevent errors, and learn various testing strategies to improve the quality of application software.

This online course for grades 9-12 helps students develop a personal career plan to assist them in meeting their professional goals. This introductory, six-unit course provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to establish a successful career in IT.

Fundamentals of Computer Systems

Prepare students with technological, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to be used in the world of information technology with Ignitia Fundamentals of Computer Systems. This six-unit, CTE elective helps students in grades 9-12 learn the basics of operating systems, computer hardware, and computer software as they discover that building and maintaining positive customer relations is an integral part of success within the IT industry.

Fundamentals of Programming/Software Development

Outline potential career paths for tech-savvy students with Ignitia Fundamentals of Programming and Software Development. The six-unit course for students in grades 9-12 helps tomorrow’s programmers and software developers become well-versed in programming language concepts, specifically Java®. Students practice gathering and analyzing customer software needs, learn the core principles of programming, develop software specifications, and evaluate new and emerging software.

Introduction to Network Systems

Familiarize students in grades 9-12 with the fundamental concepts of computer networking systems. In this introductory course, learners study various network devices, physical media, network operating systems, and network security. This online, six-unit course also examines industry standards and the development of networking technologies, as well as software and hardware components used in typical networking and internetworking environments.

Network System Design

Set your students ahead in the world of IT with Ignitia Network System Design. While learning how to identify the needs of both customers and businesses, students develop an understanding of network terminology and fundamentals. This online, six-unit course for grades 9-12 covers how to differentiate between various network classifications and practice the high-level design principles of network architecture.
